What to Expect After Vein Treatment

Sclerotherapy at Advanced Aesthetics M.D. Med Spa (Denver Laser, Skin and Vein Center), is the best treatment for the removal of spider, veins, reticular veins, and small varicose veins because it is highly effective, minimally invasive, safe, and relatively pain-free. Sclerotherapy is the gold standard for vein treatment and a surprisingly easy treatment for legs, body, hands, and face.

Dr. Laronn at Advanced Aesthetics M.D. Med Spa (Denver Laser, Skin and Vein Center), administers sclerotherapy by injecting a sclerant (a chemical which irritates the vein wall) into your vein causing it to close and be reabsorbed into the body. Your body naturally reroutes blood flow to the surrounding healthy veins. Whether you are an active person, have an upcoming event such as a vacation or wedding, want to improve the look of current spider veins, small veins, varicose veins, broken capillaries, or feeder veins on your legs, hands or chest, Sclerotherapy can provide significant results.

Here at Advanced Aesthetics M.D. Med Spa (Denver Laser, Skin and Vein Center), one common question that patients have is “what should I expect after vein treatment”? To start, sclerotherapy involves minimal discomfort, short down time, and quick recovery. To expand on how sclerotherapy provides relatively quick results, leading clinics, such as the Advanced Aesthetics M.D. Med Spa in Denver, Colorado, typically use micro-foam vein injections. This type of treatment is faster than normal because the sclerosing agent is mechanically foamed before injection, allowing a more concentrated solution to be used. Not only does it make the treatment more effective, it can also speed your recovery.

What to Expect After Vein Treatment

Recovery time – You can generally expect to return to work and normal activity the same day as the procedure. Expect a follow-up visit with your doctor about 4 weeks following the procedure. Walking and mild exercise are often recommended to keep your blood circulating after treatment.

Results – You likely won’t see immediate results the day of or day after, as the agent needs time to work. If you were treated for small varicose veins or spider veins, you can usually expect to see definitive results in three to six weeks. Larger veins may require three to four months. However, we recommend to patients that a couple of treatments are completed to ensure the best possible results.

Bruising or itchiness – You may experience some bruising in the treated area shortly after the procedure. This is completely normal and shouldn’t cause concern or discomfort. With proper rest, this should clear up in a week or two. At that point you should be able to get back to your regular activities. Depending on the type of solution used, you may experience mild itching along the vein route. If you experience itching, it normally lasts only two hours but may continue for up to one or two days.

Swelling – Your veins may look swollen or red after injection, which indicates that the sclerant solution is working. Your doctor will press down on the injection sites and apply gauze or other compression wrappings. After the procedure is complete, you will be expected to wear compression garments or stockings to help collapse the treated veins and help you heal. Swelling normally disappears in just a few days and is minimized by wearing the recommended support stockings. Compression helps prevent blood from being trapped in the problem veins, and keeps the vein walls intact so that healing can take place. You can expect to wear compression garments for about a week after treatment. Some doctors recommend wearing compression garments for up to 3 weeks for best results.

Allergic reactions – Very rarely does a patient have an allergic reaction to the treatment agent used. The risk of an allergic reaction is higher in people who have a history of allergies.

Treated veins fade permanently after sclerotherapy treatment. It is normal for new varicose veins and spider veins to develop in new areas, which may require additional treatment. Before choosing a medical clinic to perform sclerotherapy it is important to do your research and select a licensed doctor and vein specialist. It may take several sclerotherapy sessions to make problem veins disappear completely. If several sessions are indicated, your veins are given a minimum of 3-4 weeks to completely heal before another sclerotherapy treatment. By choosing Dr. Laronn at a Advanced Aesthetics M.D. Med Spa, who is one of the most experienced vein doctors in Denver, you will be able to attain the best Denver vein treatment possible for your legs, face, hands, and body.
